Pondering motherhood before Christmas

As any mother would know, Christmastime is the best time to think about being a mom. For me, personally, I am filled with such awe when I think about the best mother on earth, in the moments before, during, and after the birth of her Son. Just think about it: knowing that inside your womb is the God of the Universe, seeing that newborn face moments after He was born, looking upon him with eyes and a heart that only a mother can possess. I simply can't fathom the joy and peace in Mary's heart. I stumbled across these quotes and, applying them to both Mary and all mothers out there, I share them with you:

"A mother is the most important person on earth. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any Cathedral -- a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body." -- Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty (as quoted by Danielle Bean)

"As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women."--
Nicole Johnson, The Invisible Woman

And to a special mom out there, my sister-in-law Shelley, may God be with you in a special way in these days before your son's birth!
