Lord, be with us

I opened the internet this morning as I usually do while I drink my morning coffee. Our homepage, Fox News, opened up and my heart sank. These were the top stories of the morning:

Obama to lift ban on overseas abortion funding

Belgium Nursery Rampage

Stem Cell Study Gets Green Light

How Teens Really Feel about Pornography

This sure was a lot to be hit with at 7:00 in the morning. After reading these different stories, I broke down. I couldn't help but weep for all the hurt and evil that is running rampant in this world. I know there is much good out there, too, but I just can't get over the lies being told us and the hurt being caused us on a daily basis. Sometimes it gets too hard to comprehend and my prayer becomes "Lord, please stop all of this. Come back. Separate the weeds from the wheat and bring us home where there will be no more tears, no more evil."

But thank God for Hope. Not the kind of false hope being touted by secularists, but the Hope that can only come from God. It is the Hope knowing that He will prevail through all of this and be the victor over all. It is the Hope that gives us peace even when - especially when - we cannot see the outcome. It is the Hope that comforts us when we see evil being carried out on His people.

After I started crying, Avila looked right over at me. She started smiling to make me feel better, like she always does when I'm sad or grumpy. I then realized what a blessing I have in her and in Michael. Besides the Lord, they are my rock. They remind me of the calling I have to love them with all I have, despite everything else going on in the world. I may not be able to change people's hearts into seeing the truth and freedom God's laws bring, but that is not my purpose. My purpose is to raise holy children so that they will see the truth and freedom God's laws bring. I don't care if they are liked or popular or beautiful as long as they are holy.

In closing, I simply ask that God be with us and empower us to be an example for those causing pain and suffering. I ask that He help us recognize, as well, ways in which we are causing pain in our own families, and to help us be the change we wish to see in this world.

One of my favorite quotes from Blessed Mother Theresa which sums up our purpose on Earth:

"God did not call me to be successful, He called me to be faithful"

When the world around seems out of control, I like remembering that.

That quote is so true. That really is our only call. I just need to remember it every time I look at the news!
