Yup, that's the Bellarmine Prep Football season. They won their first playoff game last weekend - the only team from their league to do so. I am so proud of Michael, the other coaches and the Lion football team for all their hard work. Since Michael is a Defensive Coach, and their defense is ranked as one of the best in the state, I am extra proud. Here is what the Tacoma News Tribune had to say about their last game...
If winning ugly is what it takes to reach the Class 4A football state playoffs for the first time since 2002, Bellarmine Prep coach Tom Larsen will take it. The Lions turned the ball over five times, but a swarming defense propelled Bellarmine Prep to a 31-7 win over Kentridge in a Class 4A state play-in game Saturday night at Mount Tahoma. “Our defense, talk about shutting them down,” Larsen said. “We put our defense in tough spots, but they responded.”
Bellarmine Prep (9-1), making its first state playoff appearance since 2002, travels to Arlington (8-2) next week. “Everyone’s ecstatic,” quarterback Sefo Liufau said. “As long as we get these turnovers take care of, we’ll be ready for state next week.” While the offense was giving away the ball, Bellarmine Prep’s defense turned in a masterful performance. The Lions allowed four first downs. “Our defense played incredibly amazing,” Liufau said. “Our offense had mental errors and our defense came up big and helped us get this win.”
Even Avila is excited. Here's what she has been singing nonstop for the past few days.
